Version history
What changed in each version. The same list is in the app: Help › About PaneShift › Version History.
PaneShift is in development; the current version is 0.4.32.
0.4.0 25 October 2026§
Safer servers and archives, 13 languages, a calmer panel and a first-launch guide.
New§
- Connect to a web server's folder listing (HTTP, HTTPS): browse and download, read-only.
- Rename (Shift+F6) and New Folder (F7) inside 7z and ZIP archives.
- Uploads to SFTP and FTP cut off by a dropped connection continue where they stopped.
- Locked tabs stay locked after a restart.
- The Delete key (⌦) deletes like F8, with Shift permanently.
- A welcome sheet on first launch with the one access step each edition needs.
- Settings › Keys: record a shortcut by pressing it; a key two commands share is pointed out at once.
- Quick View shows Markdown files formatted.
- Synchronize Folders can be undone.
- Slovak; every message of the engines is now translated in all 13 languages.
- Full open-source licence texts in the app and on the website, with the 7-Zip source offered.
- Version History in the Help menu.
Improved§
- The panel header takes two rows instead of four; the tab bar shows only with two or more tabs.
- Toolbar icons are monochrome like the rest of macOS; Settings › Appearance brings the colors back.
- Space on a folder calculates its size even when Space shows Quick View or Quick Look (Settings › General).
- Function bar labels and tooltips follow your keymap; shortcuts are shown as symbols.
- File colors are adjusted to stay readable on light, dark and custom themes.
- Commands that don't fit the marked items are turned off in menus, toolbar, function bar and palette.
- SFTP and SCP check unknown servers against known_hosts or ask, and refuse revoked keys.
- 7-Zip passwords travel through standard input, never the command line.
- Folder rules refuse to unpack archive bombs.
- Connect to Server: Save and Connect sit at the bottom of the form.
- One date format everywhere; clearer placeholders and VoiceOver labels.
Fixed§
- The Git column can no longer run programs from a repository being shown.
- User command parameters are shell variables, never pasted into the command.
- Command output no longer freezes on background programs; Stop ends the whole process tree.
- Copying a folder over a file moves the file to the Trash instead of deleting it.
- Undo works on SMB shares.
- Quick View of a file kept only in the cloud (OneDrive, iCloud Drive) downloads it for a full preview instead of a small thumbnail.
- Verifying copies no longer seems stuck at the end of a big file: the source (an SMB share, say) is read only once, and the check shows its own progress.
- Settings that can't be read are kept aside instead of overwritten.
- The Lister shows the text of binary files instead of an empty page.
0.3.0 24 October 2026§
Full 7-Zip, undo, editing on servers, folder rules and the website.
New§
- 7z, RAR and the other 7-Zip formats through the bundled 7-Zip 26.05; add to and delete from 7z and ZIP.
- Undo and Redo for file operations (⌘Z, ⇧⌘Z).
- Edit files on servers with F4: every save is uploaded, conflicts are asked about.
- Jump to Folder (⌘J) and z on the command line, ranked by how often and how recently you go there.
- Copy and paste files with ⌘C and ⌘V, and paste images, text and links as new files.
- Folder rules in the style of Hazel (Settings › Rules).
- A global shortcut (⌃⌥Space) brings PaneShift forward or hides it.
- Photo and media columns, sorting by date taken, and media fields in Multi-Rename.
- Live Text and background removal in Quick View.
- Thumbnails view (⌥⌘3), themes and a font choice for the file lists.
- Find Files looks inside archives.
- Servers on the local network in Connect to Server; SCP for servers without SFTP.
- Change permissions on SFTP and FTP servers.
- The Process Viewer inside a panel.
- The website and user manual.
Improved§
- A panel header with drive buttons, free space and tabs; a toolbar in the title bar.
- Copy progress with two bars; a conflict dialog with Overwrite All and Skip All.
- Cancelled server copies keep the finished files and never leave a cut-off file under its real name.
- Tool windows open centered over the main window.
- Settings › General: choose what Space does in a panel.
0.2.0 23 October 2026§
